Emergency Denture Repairs

If you’re looking for a quality denture repair service, please call St George's Dental Lab.

Don't worry if you've damaged your dentures, our clinical dental technician have the expertise to restore your smile in our fully equipped laboratory.

Dentures can fracture in the mouth or simply by dropping them in the sink whilst cleaning them.

Here's a handy tip: Partially fill the sink with some water to help prevent the denture breaking should you drop it in the sink or alternatively place a towel in the sink.

We advised against patients repairing their own dentures. Online kits offer little in terms of repair strength and miss-aligning the glued pieces could result in further discomfort/problems.

If you've broken your dentures get in touch with the clinic straight away, as our clinical dental technician will advice the best course of action to take and where possible we will safely and professionally repair your dentures to leave them as good as new.

Same Day Dentures

Having your teeth removed? You should not need to wait for dentures after recent extractions, we can measure and fit some for you the same day if you get in touch.

How do we make same day dentures?

Before extractions we can make a partial or full set of dentures that can be worn after your treatment, this gives you time to heal enough to have permanent dentures fitted.

It takes gums and mouth tissue 6 months to heal after extractions, our same day denture is a temporary solution, we can then create a new denture once all healing has taken place. Losing one tooth can feel bad, our job is to help you recover from the shock and send you on your way feeling confident about your teeth, mouth and dentures.

Implant Dentures..

If you are looking for implant dentures, St George's Dental Lab are happy to help you as implant dentures are the "Gold Standard" for replacing lost teeth. Titanium supports are screwed into your jaw which over time fuses to the bone over 3-12 months. These titanium supports then act like natural tooth roots onto which Crowns, Bridges or Dentures can be anchored securely, helping to restore your Smile and facial structure.

Implant dentures are a cost-effective way of restoring your smile, bite and ability to function without the need for denture glues or fixatives and help preserve the remaining bone which can diminish over time when natural teeth are lost

Implant denture treatment is normally completed in two stages:

  • The implants are placed in the jaw*
  • When the gum has healed, replacement teeth are attached to the implants.

*Sometimes we can attach temporary teeth to an implant at the time of the first fitting stage.

Are implant dentures the right thing for you? if you need Implant Dentures, call us.

Acrylic Dentures

Looking for acrylic dentures, we can help.

Acrylic dentures are very popular types of dentures, as they are more affordable, lighter and are super adjustable if adjustments are needed.

Dentures need to be replaced about every 5-8 years, but may need adjustments/replacing sooner depending on changes in the mouth or sometimes if the denture is worn out prematurely.

The lifespan of acrylic dentures is dependant on the quality of the materials used and may only last 2-4 years if cheaper quality materials are used. It is always worth considering this when you pay for a denture, the same as any product you buy.

If you are unsure what kind of denture is right for you, please call us on 07809 667 196 to discuss your needs and requirements options available.

Partial Dentures...

A partial denture will fill in the gap of one or more missing teeth, they can be made in acrylic, metal or flexible materials or a combination of two with the false teeth attached to the plate.

Dentures ideally will have clasps (arms) on them which hold the partial denture more securely in position in your mouth, they can then be unclipped and removed.

We can advise you on which type of denture should suit you, your mouth and your budget to restore your smile.

Partial Denture Care

Partial dentures can feel strange in your mouth to begin with, but the more your persist with them the quicker you will get used to wearing them.

To start with you should wear the dentures as much a possible to get used to them and to allow them to "bed in".

Removing your dentures at night will allow your gums to recover from the days activities as you sleep. When you remove them, the dentures are best kept in a denture cleaning solution as per the manufacturers instruction – this helps keep the dentures as clean as possible and more importantly remove the bacterial load.

Please call/email any time should you require any further information and we'll respond as soon as possible.

Denture Relines...

In need of denture relines? Let us give you some advice and help, a quality denture reline can tranform the way you feel about speaking, eating and drinking.

Mouth and gum changes

As you get older, the changing shape of your mouth, gums and the age of your dentures will affect how your dentures feel. You may find that you need denture relines to help with the problem. We can adapt your dentures to fit the changing shape of your mouth, transforming your dentures fit to feel just right for you.

Hard reline or soft reline?

Hard relines restore the fit and retention of your dentures but you will need to leave your denture at the surgery for a brief period. Soft relines can be added to lower full dentures to relieve tenderness of the gums, until such time as the denture can be hard relined.

Temporary relines

Some of our patients have been wearing poorly fitting dentures for some time, this can traumatise the gums. In this case a tissue conditioner can be used to help restore the health of the gums before a more permanent solution i.e. hard reline.

Frequently Asked Questions

Why Visit a Clinical Dental Technician?

Who better to make your teeth than the person who actually fabricates dentures day in day out.

Traditionally the dentist would send your teeth to a technician at a separate location with minimal information, the technician then fabricates their best estimate of what they think the patient requires.

When you visit Simon (a clinical dental technician) you are treated by someone who has been setting teeth for patients for many years. Who better to tell Simon what they want than the patient themselves, so together we discuss what the patient wants / expects from their denture(s) and how together we will achieve this.

How is something so personal, treated so impersonal; Without the patient being treated by the person setting their denture?

What Happens When Something Goes Wrong?

Have you been told:

  • You have a difficult bite!
  • Its your mouth!
  • Use some fixative!

These are poor excuses used by people who don't really understand how to construct dentures!

A patients habitual bite is probably the hardest thing to establish / replicate / restore sometimes even for the patient! especially when the patient has no teeth left or has been wearing old dentures for an extended period of time. The mouth is a harsh environment and dentures (pieces of plastic) are a poor substitute for teeth that a patient will wear, sometimes for the rest of their lives if implants aren't possible.

Then factor in being told to "just use some fixative" (denture glue) day in day out!

If dentures are fabricated properly then all these problems can be avoided or "managed" by nearly, but not all patients regardless of their mouths.
